HHL Architects developed the restoration and a number of adaptive reuse designs of this historic McKim, Mead & White designed mansion, the home for the Butler family, owners of The Buffalo News during the early 20th century. It is located at the corner of Delaware Avenue & North Street in the Allentown neighborhood of downtown Buffalo.
Following the design of executive offices and back offices at other locations, HHL designed the restoration and (first) adaptive reuse of this building for the executive office headquarters for Delaware North Companies. HHL developed another reuse design after Delaware North relocated, and Varity Corporation moved their world headquarters in. The building is currently used by the University at Buffalo.
The existing brick and stone building envelope was restored and the interior spaces were adaptively reused and restored to accommodate executive meeting and administrative functions. The site and adjacent carriage house were also redesigned to accommodate the parking and office support functions.
