Working with Pentagram Architects, HHL Architects developed a new branch bank design prototype and produced a Design Guidelines Manual for use across the eight (8) Mid-Atlantic region states M&T serves with approximately 800 current branch locations. The Design Manual was published in 2010.
As part of the scope of services, HHL provides ongoing design direction to the numerous local architectural firms implementing the renovation/new build work throughout the eight (8) state network. Typical building envelope specifications and details, office and workstation standards with the bank's preferred vendor, and LEED standards were included in the work.
The M&T Bank Branch at Southgate Plaza, West Seneca, NY (photos shown), was the first branch built in accordance with the new design guidelines. It is considered M&T Bank's flagship branch, and therefore is nearly three-times the size of a typical DeNovo prototype. HHL Architects provided design guidance throughout the design & construction implementation of this first "prototype" branch.
