El Barrio's Artspace @ PS109

HHL Architects in collaboration with Victor Morales Architect of Brooklyn, NY, designed this mixed-use low income housing project for local artists and their families.

The developer has constructed many of these around the country, but this would be the first "Artspace" project for New York City. The project involves the adaptive reuse of this National Register-listed, Charles Snyder designed, New York City public school building into 90 loft units, including gallery space, community storefront and common use space for use by the residents and neighborhood.

Artspace has teamed with El Barrio Operation Fightback to create a new, vital, creative residential use for this building located in this vibrant and proud East Harlem neighborhood.
